Only 2018 AMG C63 S Coupe On the Road, Owner Can’t Drive It

By -

This is what it looks like when a nightmare becomes reality.

Imagine working hard every day and finally being able to buy the car of your dreams. Now imagine the dealer calling to ask for the car back because it’s not street-legal. Sounds like a terrible nightmare, right? Well, this is exactly what’s happening to YouTuber MaximusBlack.

A few months ago, he placed an order for a brand-new 2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe. Later on his dealer contact informed him that a 2018 model will cost only $10 more. Maximus figured, “$10 more? Why the hell not?” As the July 17 delivery date came closer, he received another phone call saying that there had been a delay. This was concerning because he wanted to enjoy the car for more than a few weeks before putting it into storage (East Coast winter problems).

The delay also caused problems because he already made appointments with several aftermarket shops to do work as soon as the car was delivered. With this setback, he had no choice but to cancel the bookings. After that, he was told that his car was scheduled to be delivered on time after all — another red flag. So he picked up his brand-new C63 S Coupe and took it home. Shortly afterward, the dealer called and demanded he return his car because 2018 models aren’t legally allowed to be operated on public roads yet.

So as of now Maximus has a brand-new, 2018 C63S Coupe in his driveway — possibly the only one in North America — and he’s not allowed the drive it. How painful is that? To help ease the pain, the dealer offered a loaner SL63 that belongs to one of its executives. Still, a pair of free gas cards, complimentary maintenance and some AMG swag would have been nice.

How would you feel in this guy’s situation? We’d be beyond livid. Let us know your thoughts on the forum!
