Why Not Treat Yourself to a Mercedes Formula 1 Race Car?

The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 W04 isn’t roadworthy but it certainly would make a nice collectible.

The thought of owning your own race car is typically the kind of thing reserved for seasoned racers or kids who spend hours playing games like Forza Motorsport.

Why Not Treat Yourself to a Mercedes Formula 1 Race Car?

Mercedes-Benz, however, is inclined to think that even a few regular, everyday car buffs might be interested in picking up a hot race car. Well, “regular” meaning some millionaire who might be looking for a new toy to add to their collection.

The race car is known as the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 W04, which made its racing debut during the 2013 Formula 1 season on February 4th at the circuit in Jerez de la Frontera in Southern Spain, as highlighted on Mercedes-Benz’s classic car site, All Time Stars.

During the 2013 racing season, drivers of this car included Nico Rosberg and then-new teammate Lewis Hamilton, which certainly adds some provenance to the purchase. As you may know, Hamilton’s addition to the team made him the first British driver to officially race for Mercedes-Benz since Stirling Moss in 1955.

The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 W04 also comes with a pretty impressive record, with Nico and Lewis winning three races in the car and making it to the podium nine times over the course of the 2013 season.

All Time Stars does, however, make it a point to note that the F1 W04 is pretty much one of those “buy as is” kind of purchases, stating that the car isn’t in a condition to drive on a track or the road. Of course, we can’t imagine anybody buying a 2013 wining Formula 1 race car for Sunday drives or to smoke the tires on a drag strip.

There’s no price listed for the race car. But rest assured, a gem like this probably doesn’t come cheap.
