AMG & Aston Martin: What Do You Think?
A couple of months ago, we ran a story on Mercedes Benz’ AMG inking a deal with Aston Martin to supply engines. And while AMG has supplied engines to other manufacturers in the past, we wondered if it’s such a good idea as Aston Martin could pull sales from cars such as the Mercedes SLS.
Unfortunately, Aston Martin doesn’t have the resources that MB does and so this deal makes sense (especially if we’re talking about hybrid drivetrains) for Aston. But besides the additional income, what does Mercedes Benz get out of it? This isn’t an issue of brand dilution– it’s not like they’re supplying engines to Chery. But we think that there should be more to Benz than profit. Is this much ado about nothing? What do you think?
