AMG C63 vs. E92 M3 Drag Race Proves That Germans Can Do Muscle

By -

An American-style drag race. In Canada. With German cars.

For over half a century, the muscle car has been an overwhelmingly American phenomenon. At least, that’s what the marketing teams in Detroit would have you think. Yes, Germans have been eating America’s lunch when it comes to fast cars that stick to the ground like glue and can carve corners with scalpel-like precision, but in the new world, we own straight-line speed, right?

Well, not exactly. Because on top of building Nürburgring-ready sports cars, the Germans have the muscle car formula mastered too. And just like in Detroit, there’s a lot of competition between the Deutsche Big Three.  Sure, Audi can do speed, but at the end of the day, the big rivalry is between BMW and Mercedes-Benz. That’s what makes this video by YouTuber Wheels so glorious. An American-style drag race between two midsize cars with massive V8s stuffed under the hood – never mind that the race is being held in British Columbia. But instead of a Mustang versus a Camaro here, it’s an e92 BMW M3 versus a Mercedes C63 AMG.

W204 C63 AMG vs. E92 BMW M3

The E92 was the last M3 available as a coupe. And with a 4.0 liter V8, it’s plenty powerful. But it’s pretty clear that it’s no match for the AMG with its massive 6.3 liter V8. The sound, of course, is incredible; two impossibly over-engineered German V8s going all-out at once.

Sadly, if you’re looking for an all-out war here, you may be disappointed. The big W204 Mercedes walks away from the Bimmer and never looks back. Despite having an extra two doors, the AMG simply out-muscles the Bavarian coupe. We’re not going to say that this isn’t exactly what we wanted to see happen, but next time, maybe this Mercedes owner should at least pretend to make it a fair fight? We wouldn’t want BMW drivers to get their feelings hurt.
