AMG GLE 63 S Tuned to 900 HP Is a Monster Crossover SUV

By -

Amazing AMG GLE 63 S cruises around town and effortlessly hits 188 mph on the highway.

Let’s be honest – nobody’s ever going to call the stock AMG GLE 63 S a slouch. Packing a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8, the swoopy ‘ute cranks out a healthy 577 horsepower and hits 60 mph in just 4.1-seconds. But like all modern, computer-controlled turbo cars, you can easily crank up the juice with minimal effort if you so wish. And that’s exactly what the owner of this particular AMG GLE 63 S did with his ride.

To the point where it now produces a rather insane 900 hp and around 737 lb-ft of torque. And YouTuber AutoTopNL attempts to use every one of them in this rather entertaining POV test drive video. But make no mistake – this thing isn’t exactly what you’d call a sleeper. Not when it’s clad in a wild wrap job that’s equal parts arctic chill and neon green. But when your exhaust is loud enough to wake up the police two counties over, does it really matter?

Thankfully, this AMG GLE 63 S is equipped with active exhaust. And when cruising around in comfort mode, our host notes that it’s “really quiet, and really comfortable.” Until he comes across a tunnel, however. Then, it’s time to unleash the dogs of Hell. “I think most people in a ten-mile radius really, really hate us” he notes afterward.

Outside of the sound, the driving experience is obviously “insane.” But the stock engine has also been treated to a number of beefy internal parts, so it’s also quite reliable. “I’m always surprised by how well these insane engines run,” our host notes. “And how driveable it still is.”

Indeed, 900 hp engines used to be rather limited in their scope of use. But with today’s technology, you can make grocery runs and drop the kids off at soccer, then rip off a high speed run on the Autobahn. Which our host actually does here, and hits an amazing 188 mph before letting off. Talk about having your cake and eating it to.
