AMG One Broke Record by Ten Seconds
Engel’s time is almost ten seconds faster than the previous production car mark around the 156-corner track held by a modified Manthey Racing Porsche 911 GT2 RS a in 6m 43.3s lap.
Mercedes-AMG’s One is a ‘Formula 1 car for the road’. The two million dollar hypercar uses a tweaked version of Hamilton and Russell’s Formula 1 power. It comprises a turbocharged 1.6-litre V6 grand prix engine and four electric motors.
“This was an unforgettable experience,” Engel explained. “I did not expect that we would be able to set such a lap time in damp and tricky track conditions – it was a special challenge!”
Engel Deployed One Electric Energy In best Possible Way
“Like Lewis Hamilton and George Russell on their race weekends, I also had to deploy the electrical energy of the hybrid drive in the best possible way. “That’s not easy, especially with this length of track, but it was a real Formula 1 feeling.”
“I’m proud of the AMG team and everyone involved in this project,” Mercedes-AMG chair Philipp Schiemer wrapped it up. “We are very happy a with this fantastic lap time.”
The record car was the same specification of the 275 units ready to ship to their new owners. Mercedes-AMG, the F1 team and AMG High Performance Powertrains collaborated to hand build the AMG One.
