AMG Snuggles up to AWD

2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG

Apparently people really like all-wheel-drive AMGs — they’re selling so well that AMG is looking to increase its AWD offerings. An example of all-wheel drive’s popularity can be seen with the E63 AMG: in some markets where both the rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models are sold, the take rate for the AWD car is more than 90 percent.

Because customers have responded so nicely to cars with four driven wheels, AMG’s CEO Tobias Moers says that in the future we can expect all-wheel drive to be offered across the AMG range, with the exception of the supercar segment.

With the tire-torturing power AMG cars produce, and as rear-biased (sporty) as 4MATIC is, this seems like a sound business decision.

Are you okay with AMG embracing all-wheel drive, or do you think walking is better than having to get behind the wheel of an AWD car?
