Brown Beast: Mercedes-Benz 2013 GL63 AMG

Put simply, the GL 63 AMG is a big brown beast. It’s the largest vehicle that Mercedes offers that isn’t classified for commercial use only. The unimog skates the line, but even those won’t sit seven people like the GL will.

But even the normal GL is heavy and huge. AMG’s influence is largely under the hood. They’ve fitted the full-size SUV with the 5.5 liter V8 that you can find in the S63 and E63 AMG cars. Here it makes a whopping 557 hp and will propel the SUV to 60 mph in a hair under 5 seconds. Set loose, it’ll go all the way to an electronically limited 155 mph. Let those numbers sink in for a minute.
