Buying a Wrecked W221 S-Class and Fixing It on a Budget

Hopes and dreams are common among us, but sometimes big dreams can become a situation where we bite off more than we can chew. On that note, MBWorld forum member mercedesbenzs55 recently bought a totaled W221 S-Class in hopes of fixing it on the cheap, and having a nice Benz to drive around at a fraction of the cost. From the pictures, it may not look that bad, but we all know underlying damage can add up very quickly.

The plan was to replace the bumper and tail lights, and apply various amounts of bludgeoning to the back panels and and beat them back into shape. Now, I’m not an expert on body work, but I know rubber hammers won’t make a panel perfect. And that has no impact at all if the uni-body is out of shape.

If the insurance company said it was a total loss, would you believe them? Well mercesesbenzs55 doesn’t think so. Go ahead and follow along in the thread and see if the big dreaming works out. Here’s hoping it does!
