Classic Mercedes Redefines Quick Lube as It Smashes Through Shop

Classic Mercedes Quick Lube Crash

It’s unclear how, exactly, this crazy accident happened, but the classic Mercedes drop top is clearly the victim.

Most of us automotive enthusiasts are well aware of the shenanigans that take place in small, cheap quick lube places, which is precisely why we don’t take our cars there. In all fairness, there are plenty of reputable establishments of this kind, but there are many more that aren’t exactly filled with well-paid folks that care about automobiles the way that we do. This video posted by Cars and Coffee San Diego proves our point quite well, as it depicts a poor classic Mercedes smashing through the shop in a painful display of ignorance.

The short clip shows what appears to be a normal day at the local quick lube, with one car already parked in another bay and an employee standing in front of the second bay door, awaiting the arrival of the classic Mercedes drop top. However, he gets to test out his reflexes when the car comes rolling in at high speed, jumping over the ramps and continuing to barrel forward as it smashes through the closed bay door in dramatic fashion.

The tech, along with another worker on duty, then peer out the third bay door, clearly stunned by what just happened and curious as to how it will end. Heck, we can’t blame them, because there’s no telling what went down in this short clip. Whoever was driving the Mercedes might have mistook the brake for the gas pedal, or perhaps something else went wrong. It’s truly a mystery, but not the first time we’ve seen such a thing happen. Either way, this just hardens our resolve not to trust the wrong folks with our own personal cars.

It’s unclear how much damage the vintage drop top endured from this careless and senseless act, but we imagine that at the very least, the front end will need some work after you can clearly see the hood fly up on its way out. The bay door that it crashed into surprisingly flopped right back down after its abrupt exit, but was also pretty smashed up in the process. As for the tech driving the car, well, we imagine the businesses’ insurance will cover the damages, but the future of his employment is totally up in the air, just like the Mercedes was at one point here.
