Revised AMG E 53 includes new grille and LED headlights, two-piece LED taillamps, and new options for the MBUX system.

Below the big power of the E 63 is the “milder” E 53. For those who want a powerful E-Class without paying six figures for the privilege, $73,000 will net you an astounding ride with a turbocharged inline-six unlike anything else. Plus, you’ll have plenty of room for your friends and family to enjoy the luxury and speed, unlike your neighbor’s Shelby GT500.

For the 2021 model year, Mercedes-AMG gave the E 53 a refreshed look, plus some new options for the MBUX infotainment system, and a fresh set of aerodynamic kicks.

“Our revised E 53 is extensively enhanced, the visual update offers our customers real added value, which is underscored by our hallmark AMG grille,” said AMG boss Tobias Moers. “With the electrified 3.0-liter engine we have retained the proven drivetrain. The extensively revised suspension now offers even more of a range between long-distance comfort and precise dynamism.”

Behind the new grille is AMG’s 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six. The engine comes with a bit of electric magic, in the form of an auxiliary compressor. The result is 429 horses and 384 lb-ft of torque, 450 ponies and 568 lb-ft with the EQ Boost briefly dropping in. All of that power goes to the corners through a nine-speed automatic.

Inside the AMG E 53, the MBUX infotainment system includes three AMG displays. Among the three, the “Supersport” display includes plenty of info for the driver during track day. And speaking of, the optional AMG Track Pace “continuously monitors more than 80 vehicle-specific sets of data” to make the most of each lap around the circuit.

Behind the AMG E 53’s new AMG Performance steering wheel — wrapped in either leather, Dinamica or both — the driver and their passengers can enjoy new two-tone gray/black seating with red piping and stitching, as well as make the most of the “Hey Mercedes” voice commands from the MBUX system.

Finally, the revisions on the outside of the AMG E 53 include new front and rear LED lights, 19- and 20-inch aerodynamic five-spoke wheels, and three new shades of gray and silver to cover it all. Can’t wait to see these on the road in the coming months.
