Watch a G-Wagen Take on the Great White North

Mercedes-Benz and The North Face know a thing or two about harsh weather.

When it comes to an SUV that can handle anything that’s thrown at it, few can stand up to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The heavy-duty SUV, which hasn’t changed drastically since its debut in 1979, is known for being able to get through thick and thin. And for those who think the modern G-Wagen is something for Kardashian-wannabes, this video from Mercedes-Benz is here to prove you wrong.

Mercedes, The North Face, and the German Roamers, one of the more popular German Instagram photography collectives, undertook a journey that went from Whitehorse, Canada to Anchorage, Alaska in two G-Classes. That’s one heck of an adventure.

The trip took place this June and saw Johannes Höhn, Hannes Becker, and Lennart Pagel, as well as filmmaker Mathias von Gostomski, cover roughly 1,864 miles over 13 days. The filmmaker and photographers captured some truly stunning footage of North America’s landscape, wildlife, and people.

Needless to say, the G-Class SUVs handled the brutal terrain in stride. “The German Roamers know just where to find and record the finest and the most beautiful motifs off the beaten track,” said Natanael Sijanta, Head of Marketing Communication for Mercedes-Benz Cars. “The G-Class is just the right vehicle to reach these special locations and it fits authentically into the visual imagery.”

If we were planning to go on a journey through inhospitable areas, a Mercedes-AMG G63 would be our go-to vehicle too. But we wouldn’t say no to a G550 either, with its 416-horsepower 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine and three locking differentials.
