Don’t Worry, the G-Wagen Will Remain Awesome
Purists of the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen will always yearn for the boxy, militaristic style that made the truck the icon that it is, and Daimler’s boss is aware of this. Speaking with Bloomberg, Dieter Zetsche said that the truck, “Has to continue as it looks today. It’s not a vehicle that pretends. The G-Class is the original.”
While the styling might not receive a drastic change, some changes are in store for the next G. Mercedes is facing both stiff competition among its rivals, as well as increased safety and mileage regulations that will require some creative thinking on the designers’ part to get the G-Wagen into the 21st century.
The upcoming G-Class is set to arrive around 2016, meaning we should start to see a concept take center stage fairly soon.
