Buy this GT3 spec AMG GT race car, go racing. Simple as that.

It’s not often you get a chance to purchase an AMG factory supported race car, but lucky bidders on eBay had a shot at it. Having raced in the 2016 season, this Weather Tech IMSA AMG GT race car just wrapped up taking bids. Bidding concluded with a price $160,200, but the reserve wasn’t met in the end. We aren’t surprised.

Chassis #77, built by Mercedes-AMG GmbH, was used in only a few races of the 12 race 2017 IMSA season. Hot shoes Cooper MacNiel and Gunnar Jeanette being the regular pilots of the car. Highlights include a GTD class win at Long Beach. Other results weren’t quite as glamorous, despite being developed by Reiley Motorsports. As such, WeatherTech Racing switched to a Porsche 911 RSR for the final four races of the season. Bummer.

Interestingly, due to IMSA rules, AMG equipped the GT with the older M159 naturally-aspirated V8, rather than the M178 twin-turbo unit. Since the “63” engine was widely used in the SLS for various European endurance series races, it was carried over for use in this race car as well. One of the things you will get from this engine is typical AMG bulletproof reliability. Due to capacity, it had to be detuned from street spec in order to adjust to IMSA’s “Balance of Performance.” If you need proof of the withheld performance, just look at those air inlet restrictors.

Included is all of AMG’s GT3 support for their customer cars, so all developments and technical knowledge from the factory AMG teams are available for use with this car. All that’s left is to find a person to fill the seat. As the ad says, you can go right into the 12 Hours of Sebring, or take off the restrictors and be a local track day hero.
