Jay Leno’s 300SL Is Absolutely Perfect
The Mercedes 300SL is one of the most strikingly beautiful cars ever made. Forget the Jaguar E-Type, forget the Ferrari 250 GTO, forget almost everything. The proportions, the heritage, and those doors, they just make for one of the coolest cars ever built.
For me, if I had a choice between a 300SL and many of the new supercars coming out now, I’d probably pick the 300SL. It’s that important of a car to own. It’s the very essence of race on Sunday, sell on Monday. But with a 300SL, you can change the saying a bit: race on Sunday, drive back to work on Monday.
One man that is uniquely familiar with the classic Mercedes is none other than Jay Leno. The man, the myth, the legend owns a few of them and his 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupe Ultimate Edition has been going under the knife for some restoration as of late. Now that the car is done with the first phase of the process, Jay tells us all about it, and then takes it on the road where everyone can just gawk at the magnificent piece of art that is the 300SL.
