Mansory AMG G63 Mixes Luxury with Stealth Protection
Backed by a big boost in power, draped in exposed carbon fiber body panels, Mansory G-Class ready to protect the VIPs.
We all know the G-Class started off as a light infantry machine designed for the battlefield. As with all things tough, rugged and commanding, though, the boxy SUV soon gained fans away from the blood and lead. Thus began its transition into the glitz and glamour of civilian life.
Just because it carries celebs and diplomats around doesn’t mean the G-Wagen can’t still fulfill its original role, though. Famed German builder Mansory entered the armoring game a while ago, focusing on a philosophy of “invisible armor.” With their latest build, an AMG G63, ne’er-do-wells will be too starstruck to notice the defenses built within.
The Mansory AMG G63 throws on the ol’ razzle-dazzle with exposed carbon fiber all over the boxy body. Polished to a gleam, the G-Wagen will turn heads everywhere it goes, whether it’s the red carpet, or the big important summit.
Of course, your armed chauffeur will want to make sure you get to where you need to be in a hurry. Thus, behind the big Mansory logo and red-and-blue LED flashers, the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 gets a big boost in power. We’re talking anywhere from 700 to 800 horses, depending on what you ask them to do. That’s a huge jump from the 577 horses out of the box.
The Mansory build’s secret is, of course, its “invisible armor.” The standard build is rated at VPAM 4, which can stop .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum rounds according to this chart from Aurum Security. That’s good enough for the A-listers who only need the lightest protection from the masses.
If you’re more of a dangerous character, though, Mansory can up the armoring to VPAM 7; the name translates to the “Association of Test Centers for Attack-Resistant Materials and Constructions” from German. This rating means 0.3-inch ballistic steel hiding under the carbon fiber, guaranteed to stop .223 Remington and .308 Winchester automatic rounds.
How much will this set you back? You’ll have to ask Mansory themselves. No price is too high for protecting yourself from the madness outside, though.
