Why You Need a Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster Right Now

By -

The Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster is the fastest convertible in the lineup. If you live where the sun shines, it may be the best car you can buy right now.

The Mercedes-AMG GT models just got two new trim levels. The GT C and GT R join the base GT and GT S in Mercedes top level sports car chassis. The GT C is the one you want to buy for daily driving and we recommend the roadster. The top level GT R is a track monster and as a result it makes compromises as a road car. Luckily for you, the GT C inherits all the good bits from the GT R. The twin turbo V8 is the same as the GT R, but is offered in a slightly milder state of tune, putting out 550 hp and 502 ft-lbs of torque. Mercedes lowered the compression and added more boost over the standard GT/GT S motor. This means the throttle response of the GTC is instant and there is power everywhere. What else makes the GT C different?

The GT C receives the GT R’s wider body and wider track. This increase is almost 3 inches wider than the standard GT. In addition to the wide body, the GT C also gets the GT R’s rear-wheel steering system. The rear wheels steer in the opposite direction of the front wheels in slow speed corners, and the same direction in high speed ones. This effectively shortens the wheelbase of the car and makes it feel more nimble. Unlike the GT R, the GT C is offered in a roadster. Why is this a big deal?

As you can see in this video from YouTube Channel Seen Through Glass, dropping the top of the GT C transforms the experience. Add in the element of open air motoring to the GT C’s exciting package and it is icing on the cake. As you will see even in rainy weather the GT C is a joy to drive. We here at MBWorld recommend it as a wonderful choice for a daily driver.
