Nope, not true, says Mercedes-Benz.

Reports that parent company Daimler will stop selling diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the U.S. are absolutely false, according to HybridCars.com. More specifically, the news source is reporting that a Mercedes company spokesperson said, “There is currently no decision nor are there considerations to withdraw diesel from the U.S.”

The initial report originated at a magazine called Der Spiegel, which claimed Mercedes would stop selling hybrid cars in 2017 in the U.S. Although, Mercedes has to assume some of the responsibility for fueling the rumors as well, following a comment made by a Mercedes-Benz spokesman who was quoted as saying that the company was looking into whether it makes sense to continue selling diesel vehicles in the States.

Compounding the issue is the fact that there’s been a lag in diesel certifications for Mercedes in the U.S.
