The next time you hear someone raving about how cool those old conversion vans used to be, tell them that we prefer living in the moment.

Then send them this post showcasing the latest Mercedes-Benz spin on the concept. My guess is that even if they do have fond memories of those wild family haulers from the ‘70s and ‘80s, this will give them a completely different perspective on the idea.

The van is actually a highly converted Mercedes-Benz V-Class based Metris, done in partnership with a company called Westfalia, according to a Car and Driver report. And apparently, Mercedes has been collaborating on the idea for a few years.

The latest models, known at the Marco Polo Editions, were recently showcased at the Caravan Salon trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany. They come equipped with everything from a kitchenette to a full-size bed, as highlighted in the clip below.

Oh, and before you start racing to pull up Mercedes-Benz’s consumer site with plans to spec out a model, know this: the converted vans are not currently available in the U.S. So if you want to spec out a Metris in the States with all these cool features, you’ll need to find a pretty creative customizer to pull it off.
