2015 GLK, NTG4.7 nav update method?

I wasn't able to find anything definitive with a search. My 2015 GLK (Canada) has a SD card slot on the radio and a USB slot in the centre console. Are maps updated via SD or USB. I do not have a Becker slot in the glovebox.

SD

You need at least a 32gb FAT32 SD card and Command Download Manager on PC. Command Download Manager will download the maps directly to your SD, then put it in your head unit and put in the license key and your maps will update.

Hmm, maybe it can use USB. I've always read it's SD only and that's how I just updated my maps.

I guess I could try both. It is pretty simple to load the update on either once I get it.

I have a '13 GLK and do not have a thingy in the glove box. Where do you get the map update, license, and the command software mentioned earlier?
Many thanks

I got my license from these guys on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/285537899205

There might be cheaper places out there but I got the license in 5 mins with these guys.

Check the BenzNinja post above. They have everything you need.

I am debating with updating the maps or going the android route and installing a new system to get carplay or android auto. To be honest, I think I will be happier with a whole new system. I find the Nav interface to feel old and I don't really like the way it displays routing. Even with updated maps, I think I would be happier with a complete new system.

You guys are so soft! We used to get by with a 5 button AM radio and (free) maps from AAA or Esso. (Still can, although the dinky sharkfin antenna sucks for AM reception).

Yes, and we use to get up to change the TV channel. I don't do that now either.

Wasn't much of a problem when there were only 3 to choose from, besides, you had to adjust the rabbit ears at the same time...

@DenisMcG - I am curious if you decided to go this route, and if so, what unit you purchased? We are looking at updating our 2013 GLK with CarPlay.

I have decided that $100 is way too much for a simple map update, especially for an almost 10 year old system. I will get an Android system but haven't decided which one. Probably one from AliExpress.

I updated 2023 maps for my Becker system from the gpsurl site. Seems also to be possible for NGT...

I ordered the Road Top unit. It was about $150 after a coupon. Fingers crossed.

Update: We spent about 3 hours today trying to install the Road Top unit and determined that it cannot be installed in our GLK because in the video we watched, in the place where the guy hides the harness behind the A/C panel, there is something else installed there. I am pretty sure it's the NAV unit but I can't be sure. Back to Amazon it goes, and back to square one for us. :/

Interesting timing. I just finished installing an Android unit in my car. The installation was fairly simple except for trying to get the large connector block down behind the AC unit. I had to disconnect the cable and squeeze it into the space then reconnect to the stereo. I have Nav but there isn't anything behind the AC controls. The space is tight though.

I plan to get the USB update for my car early this year as I am planning a 5000Km+ trip. Google maps are so in accurate when looking at time.

5000km, you must be coming to the east coast. That's why I like the Android system. You can use whichever map system you like.

No East Coast, it is a 5 - 6000 km return trip. Drove to the east coast many many years ago. I think it is close to 6000km one way to the East coast from my house.

So I bit the bullet and bought the update for the maps, or at least the last map date available. Car map was 2012 (V 8.0) now it is 2020 (V20.0)

Took some time but worth it. Was supplied a download link that worked 20 Minutes to download, 25 minutes to un zip, 20 minutes to transfer to sd and 75 minutes to update the car. No problems at anytime.

Cost was $80 US or $110 CDN so worth it. I have limited data on my phone (phone costs me $0) and nothing when travelling south.

https://mbnavisolutions.com/home/update-instructions/ seems to be the best
