Mercedes Leads Pack of Most Co-Efficient Family Cars

When it comes to the best aerodynamic new family vehicles, it appears that Mercedes-Benz has two that top the list.

That’s according to Carscoops, which looked at the drag co-efficient (Cd) for a number of family vehicles. They found that both the Mercedes-Benz CLA 180 Blue Efficiency and the Mercedes-Benz W213 E-Class were some of the best in the segment.

According to the report, while the U.S. versions of the four-door coupe have a Cd of around 0.28 based on a Car & Driver test, the Cd for European diesel variant is 0.22, making it the most aerodynamic family vehicle in the segment.

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class touts a drag co-efficient of 0.23, which helps the E 220d version achieve a 7.3-second 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time in a design package that’s just as enticing as its performance attributes.

Of course, the downside for those in the U.S. is that these Cd numbers speak to the aerodynamics of European models. But they’re still very impressive nonetheless.
