Does Your Mercedes Need This ‘Healing’ Scratch Protection Film?

By -

This amazing ‘self-healing’ film only needs heat to remove visible scratches.

We’ve all had scratches and rock chips in our car’s paint that we wish we could make disappear. You might accidentally leave your keys hanging out of your pocket and brush too close to your car door. Or you might accidentally drop the Christmas decorations on your hood while retrieving them from the garage. Or you might have children. No matter how these scratches got there, if you have this really cool Xpel paint protection film, evidence of the damage could be erased from history. If you still aren’t convinced, check out this video from Engineering Explained. In it, host Jason Fenske… explains the engineering behind this interesting film.

For the video, Xpel provides the new film for Fenske to test out in real life situations. The noses of his Subaru Crosstrek and Honda S2000 were wrapped in the stuff, showing off the installation process. It’s difficult and time-consuming, so a local installation shop was contracted to do the job. If you’re planning on wrapping your car, we definitely recommend a professional installer for simplicity.

Once completed, he was able to bring the cars home for proper scratch healing testing.

This film appears to have the healing properties of the X-Men’s Wolverine, and it’s practically invisible once it’s applied to your car. After gouging a few scratches into the coating, Fenske is able to get them to “heal” with a simple blow of a heat gun. Leaving the car out in the sun on a warm day has the same effect. We wish this technology had been around ages ago because we’ve got a few paint issues on some of our older rides.

What do you think, is this wrap worth doing?
