Say it aint so!

The compact, 911 fighter from Mercedes has been put on an indefinite hold, on the grounds that it’s too expensive. The news comes from auto motor und sport, who say they heard from company sources. According to them, the board argues they already have too many cars at that price range, and building a new 911 rival would be too expensive.

In a way they’re right. It would be expensive. They wouldn’t be able to use a modified version of the SLS body and keep the price down simultaneously. That leaves the SL and CL bodies, both of which are heavy weights. The SLC platform would have to be something different. For such a low volume car, we can see why they might be reconsidering the project.

>Again, this is all conjecture. We’ve actually seen prototypes of a smaller SLS in spy shots. Whether or not that means they’re going through with production is yet to be known.
