New F1-Inspired AMG Supercar Could Be in the Works

They say that success breeds success. If so, then we’ll be placing some heavy bets on this one, if it makes it out of the idea stage.

Rumor has it Mercedes-Benz’s AMG wing is considering another high-performance standalone model along the lines of the hot AMG GT S. Except this one will be inspired by the brand’s F1 car, possibly packaged as a new mid-engine hybrid.

Most of the buzz around a potential F1-inspired new model stems from an interview Autocar did with Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers.

“My personal thinking is that we are now at a level where we could support another dedicated AMG model,” said Moers. “The car would be totally different to the GT.”

Talk about the new model being powered by a hybrid system is a little bit more unsubstantiated, coming from what Autocar refers to as “an inside source.” But one thing’s for sure, Mercedes and AMG certainly have the resources to pull it off.
