New generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class to boast a refined interior similar to that of the new E-Class Coupe.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is an icon of the automotive world. Despite being one of the planet’s most capable off-road machines, to some it might be primarily used to take the kids to school and drive to yoga class. But whatever your driving needs, never forget that it’s still a 110-percent badass vehicle.

Unfortunately, this boxy and mighty machine has always been plagued by an inferior interior in terms of style, comfort, and even quality. Sure, you may be able to survive the arctic circle, but it wasn’t “swanky” enough for some circles. Thankfully, these spy shots recently published by Motor Authority from AutoWeek.nl give us a peek at upcoming changes which will most likely be revealed at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January.

According to reports the picture of the new interior dash was snapped during a technical briefing in Europe, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Gone is the cheap and almost aftermarket-looking dash crowded with buttons straight out of the $30,000 CLA-Class. Considering that almost half of all G-Class SUVs sold in the USA are AMG models, this certainly was a negative characteristic Mercedes allowed to continue for longer than it should have.”

Instead is a large horizontally placed touchscreen identical to the one in the E-Class Coupe, along with large round vents, HVAC controls, analog clock, etc. While it’s not quite up to S-Class levels of interior, we believe most G-Class potential buyers won’t be disappointed one bit to see these new refinements.

The exterior doesn’t reveal any immediate changes (at least that we can notice), even when camouflaged it’s quite easy to see the overall design of the legendary Gelandewagen.

What do you think about the new changes?
