Have You Been Double Clutching Like You Should?

Double Clutching

Engineering Explained is getting some decent notoriety as of late, and for good reason. Their host, Jason Fenske, does a fantastic job simplifying mechanics so that plebs like you and me can better understand why we’re actually stupid. Not in the essence that we can’t understand what dear Jason is trying to explain to us, but what we are doing wrong and why we should stop it. Take for example the video below, which thoroughly explains double clutching.

Double clutching isn’t necessarily the thing to do with a modern synchronized manual transmission; the synchros will keep that unpleasant grind from happening during gear-shift changes. But there are still some instances where you might need to use the double clutch technique. Say, for instance, you are driving a racecar equipped with a synchroless manual transmission, a big rig, a car from the 1920s, or a modern car where the synchronizers are worn out.

Thanks to Jason and Engineering Explained for giving us step-by-step instructions and illustrations to help to get us through the gears a little more smoothly!
