German tuning house Opus Automotive GmbH’s R777 GT R can lap the Nurburgring 10 seconds faster than an AMG GTR Pro.

Mercedes AMG knows how to make extraordinary performance machines. Last year Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 50 went up for sale for the price of $1.07 million. A 777 HP Mercedes R777 GT R made its world debut more recently, and German tuning company Opus Automotive GmbH is responsible for the exciting new supercar.

For the uninitiated, the Tri-Star brand recently discontinued its AMG GT Black Series nameplate after building 1700 examples. The performance car could put out 720 HP of power and 590 lb-ft of torque in its factory tune. Nevertheless, Opus decided to push the envelope by enhancing the nameplate’s GTR and GTR Pro versions.

Even though 777 HP is an impressive upgrade from the standard car’s 577 HP power output, Opus will also offer performance kits that will bump the power upwards of 900 HP. Opus Automotive GmbH R777 GTR’s performance comes from sports cats, improved intercoolers, and upgraded turbochargers. The company also installs a new engine and transmission management software which helps the powertrain handle the 625 lb-ft of torque.

Opus Automotive GmbH and TIL Motorsport are currently testing the new supercar in Portugal. The company will offer R777 GT R later this spring.

Furthermore, a remote-controlled exhaust flap control system completes the ensemble and delivers a menacing exhaust note. The bodywork of Opus R777 GTR also gets several updates. At the front, we find carbon-fiber louvers, whereas a large carbon fiber rear wing dominates the rear profile of this supercar. Mercedes employs a similar wing to improve the downforce on its AMG GT4 race car.

Michelin Cup2 R tires shod the wheels of the R777 GTR. In the coming weeks, Opus’ latest offering will also get a special set of lightweight rims. The supercar rides on Ohlins TTX suspension, which gets compression damping and four-way adjustable rebound. This helps deliver excellent stability, braking, and traction, according to the company.

The stopping power comes from a set of high-performance brake pads and steel braided brake lines that use racing brake fluid. According to Opus Automotive GmbH, the R777 GTR can lap the legendary Nurburgring track 10 seconds faster than the stock Mercedes AMG GTR Pro.
