Race-ready Mercedes C55 AMG Is Set Up To Be a Circuit Master

Sad that the Formula 1 Season is over? Continue the AMG winning streak with a C55 AMG race car.

It is a rare sight to see an AMG in amateur road racing. Prohibitive costs usually lead racers to go with other makes and models. This is why we were surprised to see this C55 AMG built to take on some serious circuit work. From outward appearance, no expense has been spared on the build in terms of performance. The aspect of safety is thoroughly covered as well.

Modifications under the hood are relatively tame. The AMG V8 looks to be mostly standard, however ancillary upgrades have been added. The most obvious of which is a different set of intake filters (with heat reflective gold foil). As far as we can tell, the transmission appears to be unmodified as well.

For increased performance, far more has been done to the outside of the car. An APR front underbody splitter is attached to a highly modified front bumper. Cooling ducts and auxiliary lighting will keep the car temperatures at bay and the circuit well illuminated. Balancing downforce in the rear is a large single-element rear wing, working in conjunction with an oversized rear diffuser. Brakes are upgraded to floating-disc style rotors with Brembo calipers of 6-piston variety in the front, and 4-piston out back.

Taking a peek inside shows that safety takes priority. A full cage is the obvious feature inside, and nearly looks over-built. Obviously we like that. Keeping the driver in place is a halo-style seat and a six-point harness compatible with head and neck restraints. Also plumbed into the car is a fire suppression system with nozzles pointed at the driver to give precious extra seconds to escape.

It is fair to say that this car would be a blast at any racing circuit. Most sanctions will also allow a car like this to run, especially if their rules are based on power to weight ratios. On the other hand, it could also race in a variety of time attack series such as Global Time Attack or Gridlife. Or if you wanted the very coolest C55 AMG, the car could still be registered for road use. That would certainly catch some attention at your local cars and coffee show.
