Uncommon AMG makes the perfect family hot rod with 500+ horsepower and seating for seven.

The Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Wagon is perhaps one of the best known low-production numbers vehicles of such recent vintage. Seriously. The W211 E63 AMG wagon is a rare bird. From the MBWorld forums, albeit an older thread: 2007, 67; 2008, 62; 2009, 24. The poster mentioned that these are delivered numbers to the U.S., not total production numbers.

So, currently on Bring a Trailer, the auction site known for some really cool cars, is a 2007 Mercedes Benz E63 AMG Wagon. 1-of-67 as it were. Though Mercedes imported only 153 of these wagons, you likely already know about it. For those who aren’t familiar, that’s 507 hp from a naturally aspirated “6.3” liter V8, and a quarter mile time in the 12-second range, with seating for seven. Not unique to the AMG are the nifty little jump seats in the hatch. Mercedes even provided a little room to put your feet. They look better suited to children, and small friends. Just not the ones likely to make obscene gestures at people behind you.

This is one of our favorite years of E Class too. The styling doesn’t look dated despite being 11 years old, and the interior has most of the amenities of newer luxury cars. The only things that tell you this car came out before Obama was elected (the first time) are the dated infotainment system and the lack of driving “helpers.” Though, at least in the case of driving aides, we think cars are better without. Why bother having 507 horsepower when the car’s going to do most of the driving for you?

We like how subtle the modifications are to this E63, including the exhaust. Have a listen.

The owner, or one of them at least, removed the factory resonators. At idle, sadly all the video we’re given, the E63 sounds just about right. Not too loud, but more growl than stock.
