Recapping AMG’s Awesome Run at The 24 Hours Nurburgring in Germany
With nine vehicles on the grid, the Mercedes-AMG team was in full force and ready to conquer the ‘Green Hell’ with sound and fury.
There are some races that are simply larger than life. Some that define driver’s careers and manufacturer’s bragging rights for decades. The 24 Hours Nurburgring is exactly one of these races. Alongside Le Mans, it is most likely the most famous endurance race in the world and teams dream of winning their respective classes. The Ring is known to be brutally unforgiving to cars and manufactures use it as a benchmark for new production vehicles every year for a reason.
Mercedes-AMG participated at the 24 Hours this year a couple weeks ago. Thanks to their YouTube channel, we are able to get a look at how they performed this year at the world’s most prized endurance race. Mercedes had in total 7 GT3 cars on grid as well as 2 GT4 cars. This year is special for AMG as they debuted the new 2020 model AMG GT3 for the first time on the race track.
With more than one car on the front grid, AMG was feeling good in their qualifying standings. The race itself featured more a couple of battles between rival teams within Mercedes-AMG and it definitely made for some good racing. Unfortunately, during the night stint, one of Team Black Falcon’s AMGs made contact with a GT4 GR Toyota Supra and was left with a retirement after incurring a broken steering rack.
Throughout the race, many AMG teams in position to win the race had to make early retirements. However, Team Black Falcon was able to pull through to the very end and make a 1st place finish in the SP10 class with their AMG GT4 and place second overall in the total race time with their AMG GT3. Although finishing third, the AMG GT3 was moved into second after the Manthey Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R was disqualified for having an excess horsepower output.
Although it was not the best result for AMG, their fought valiantly throughout the race and still managed to perform well with a couple of cars throughout the harsh 24 hours. Did any of you guys get to watch the race? Let us know if the comments below what your favorite moment was.
