Red Pig

Some purists may think this re-creation of the ‘Red Pig’ goes too far–but it’s just as outrageous.

Porsche races sports cars. Alfa Romeo races sports cars. BMW races sports cars. And many decades ago, they all got trounced by a sedan. No one’s forgot since then, and that’s how legends are born. In this case, the legendary car is the “Red Pig,” and the builders who made it go by the three letter acronym AMG.

While the original Red Pig – in German, ‘Rote Sau’ – has been lost to time, there’s been numerous recreations and honorary builds. And this one is a unique twist. It’s a restomod, but it’s actually a bit of a Frankenstein, too.

S-Klub in California wanted to build a Red Pig for a client, and found a donor that was already getting the AMG treatment. But instead of using the original’s guts and chassis, S-KLUB LA has decided to put the body on a W205 C63 AMG.

S-KLUB’s styling keeps things simple for the most part. But at the other end of the perspective, the Pig has a front splitter, and rear diffuser. Not as though this car is going to ever utilize that. exterior brightwork is now rendered blacked out, to match the carbon bits that attempt to control the air. It also has a half roll-cage too, one that passes right through the back seats.

The back seats, and the whole interior for that matter, are directly from the C63. It makes for a unique contrast of new and old. But of course some additional work is done to the interior to make it unique. A square steering wheel is one such change. Otherwise, it’s a C63 AMG. So air conditioning that works, all connectivity remains and its a nice place to be. And nice place to drive.

Now we’re not saying the M100 is an unreliable motor, or weak, but the M177 is arguably better. More power, better delivery, reliability, even tune-ability if you’re after that. And the originators at AMG would be proud to continue using AMG parts. So is it sacrilegious? Tough to say.
