“The ’97 E200 has been in my family ever since I was a child, and I’ve always had a weak spot for it,” wrote its owner, PortAxePlayer1. “It was also the first car I ever drove, and to this day, I still drive it daily.”

Alas, a motorcycle banged up the prized E200 a year and a half ago, per the owner. The right fender and headlight were smashed in the accident. However, the accident was also a blessing disguise.

“At this point I had seen how old it has become,” the owner said, “and if I were to continue driving it, I would have to restore it back to factory condition as much as I could, or just part it out & get me a new one.”

We all know what happened, of course. The treasured E200 underwent a 100% OEM restoration, one still ongoing now. The Mercedes received a full respray in its original Green Black Metallic, a new full set of stock 15-inch wheels, and refreshed headlamps. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

“I learned how to use EPC, WIS & even ASRA during this year-long endeavor,” the owner said. “I would love to restore old Mercs for a living, it was so much fun!”

Future plans for the E200 include fighting rust problems on the rockers, and fitting a new Anthracite dashboard. He and his car certainly earned the MBWorld Featured Car of the Month.

In the meantime, the MBWorld forum members are preparing to select the Featured Car of the Month for July 2020. Check out all of the Benzes in the running, then vote in the poll!
