2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Review

“The best car in the world,” as Mercedes brass calls it, has been redesigned. Welcome to the era of the W222 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Let’s talk about the milestones in automotive engineering this generation represents.

It’s the first car ever in production to forego the use of light bulbs. Be still and you can feel the rumble of Thomas Edison spinning so fast in his grave he’s bound to explode out of his West Orange, New Jersey burial grounds like the Tasmanian Devil. Instead of the Edison-perfected bulbs with filaments, the S-Class uses almost a total of 400 LEDs wherever light is needed.

Judging from this Auto Express review that says the S-Class is “about as refined as a Rolls-Royce Phantom,” it would appear the W222’s quality is once again on par with the W140 S-Class; the last generation of Mercedes S-Class that was engineered without regard for cost. The amenities are a testament to the no-limit engineering philosophy. It’s one thing the S-Class’ rear center armrest is heated, it’s another thing that the rear door panels are heated. Match that with the air conditioning system perfuming the air, and you have reached the next level in proper motoring.

Check out the video below to see how else the S-Class moves the industry forward.
