7 Solid Reasons to Hold onto Your W204

What better place to hear solid reasoning than from the owners themselves?

When it comes to the compact luxury sedan market, the field is more than crowded. As a buyer looking to enter the luxury market for the first time, options are plentiful, to say the least. Want to buy the segment leader and an all-around rockstar? Buy a 3-Series. Want something Japanese and somewhat edgy? The Lexus IS is your go-to. But in this overcrowded and somewhat mundane segment, there looms a well-rounded alternative: the Mercedes-Benz C-Class — specifically the recent W204 model that ended production in 2015.

Just as important as understanding which new car to buy is knowing how it will behave two or three years down the road. The goal, obviously, is to find the setup that won’t cost additional thousands in repairs, maintenance, etc. As it turns out, the W204 has been rather nice to its owners, and hasn’t, on the whole, reeked havoc on their wallets.

On top of this proven track record of general reliability, the car still feels… well, special. But don’t take our word for it; hear it from the actual owners of the car. Below are seven reasons why you should hold on tight to your W204 and resist the urge to sell, as told by MBWorld member SuperAngryPenguin:

1) Devil you know, and the W204’s devils are few and far between.
2) Insane reliability, especially for a “German” car
3) Lack of direct injection (yes, I despise DI given the issues that I had on VAG cars)
4) Squeak free – I can’t think of a car that i’ve owned this long that doesn’t have an annoying cabin squeak
5) I can honestly see myself driving the same car for another 5 years, if not longer.
6) Ease/cheap maintenance – (when compared to cars I’ve owned (which are German/Japanese – this hands down has been the cheapest to maintain and own)
7) I’ve fully paid off this car a bit ago, so there is the notion of not having monthly car payments to pay

“I’ve always said I’d keep a car more than 4 years, and this is the first one that I’ve actually done so. I’m curious if any of you share the same thoughts b/c of a positive ownership experience,” writes SuperAngryPenguin.

Do you?
