AMG-Swapped Mercedes-Benz CLK Is Absurd
Chucking the supercharged V8 from an E55 AMG into an old CLK55 is the kind of absurd swap we can get behind.
Ask any AMG enthusiast what their favorite convertible AMG is, and quite far down at the bottom of the list, you’ll probably find the 208 chassis. Built in AMG’s early days, it was a bit absurd for the time, making a stout 347 horsepower. But, what if you wanted a bump in power? A really, really big bump in power? Well, you toss in the M113K V8, of course!
We recently spotted this white 208 convertible on eBay, and not only did it get our interest, but it jarred our memory. This build, proudly posted to MBWorld years ago, has finally changed hands.
The car was a mutt, essentially, with different parts sourced from various AMG cars, but the heart of the car was plucked from a 2006 S55 AMG donor. That, combined with other factory AMG parts means it behaves exactly as you’d expect.

There are some hiccups, though. Fail-safes from the factory prevent the transmission from grenading itself, so in rare circumstances, the car will have a slight limp mode, however, that’s only if you’re driving as though you hate rear tires.
The motor is modified as well. With a pulley and a tune, you’re looking at nearly 520 horsepower. As strange as it may sound, we’d be tempted to call this AMG a sleeper. Because, sure, it’s quick, but that much power? Craziness.
