A hilarious quote to kick off this article, from the good people at Jalopnik:

“Have you always wanted a car you couldn’t buy, but was only available in Gran Turismo 6?”

No? Well, well back last November, that’s exactly what Mercedes did when they created the AMG Vision Gran Turismo; a tip of the hat to the 15th anniversary of the Gran Turismo video game franchise.

Of course, we now know Mercedes has actually (somewhat) put their money where their pixels are and created a physical Vision Concept, which we saw in person at this past LA Auto Show. It was glorious. Seriously — like God descended from a carbon-fiber staircase and slapped me across the face with the might of a twin-turbo AMG V8.

Who could say no to a 50-foot Cigarette Racing Team speedboat with two 1,650-HP Mercury Racing engines? Top speed? 140 mph. No Moby or Dick could possibly get away.

To celebrate the virtual release of the Vision Gran Turismo,  Mercedes-Benz has also graciously offered the world a special edition Cigarette Racing 50-foot Vision GT Concept speedboat. A celebration for a celebration, if you will.

In any case, “making” the aquatic concept is a bit of a stretch as it seems to be more a marketing partnership and AMG logo application. It is pretty cool though. Who could say no to a 50-foot Cigarette Racing Team speedboat with two 1,650HP Mercury Racing engines? Top speed? 140mph. No Moby or Dick could possibly get away. Best of all? Unlike the car, the one-of-a-kind boat is available for purchase, for a cool $1.5 million. I love it when automotive marketing execs get inspired to do wacky things.
