Mobil1 0W40 5 quart jug $17.80

I just went to order some oil for an upcoming oil change and its $17.80 for 5 quarts at Walmart. Free shipping over $35. Obviously 2 jugs are needed.

That's an amazing price. Check to see if they are API Service SP rated when you get them. That's the new API Service rating. However, it is most important for turbo GDI engines. https://www.valvolineglobal.com/en-ksa/what-is-lspi/

I just checked and it's $25 for me. I think the prices change regionally.

I would have stocked up big time! But looks to be either market-dependent or too many folks already took advantage.

I just looked again and its the $24.97 price now. I thought $24.97 is a deal so was getting some for my car and my parents car. When I looked earlier it was the $17.80 for the 0W40 and it was $19.99 for my parents 0W20. I checked out and noticed it had a delivery date of Mat 6th, i figured because of the low price. I just looked again at the receipt and it appears its sold and shipped by a 3rd party seller. So, we shall see if i even get it.

Bought off Walmart and used Paypal method for payment. So if i dont get it im not worried, ill get my money back.

Good luck getting it. I have often had orders cancelled by Walmart when they were too good to be true. Your order hasn't shipped yet--it's just being prepared. Let us know what happens.

Just an update on the too good to be true price on oil. It was.

Yesterday the order actually updated to shipped, but the tracking number provided didnt look right with too many numbers. Waited till today to contact Walmart, I wanted to inform them of the wrong tracking number, also to start a record if it is a bogus seller.

Turns out the seller was bogus, they were already flagged. Good thing is I was refunded by Paypal as I was still chatting with Walmart and didnt have to wait. Going to take a trip to Walmart and just pick it up instead for the $24 price, which still is a good deal.

Actually, here in USA, the price is high due to actual synthetic content, being at best a maximum 25%...wherein it is usually 0 - 8% synthesized content.

That said, if your primary transaction motive is price....have fun.

Based on your handle, you imply knowing something technical about lubrication. How about starting a new thread so we can discuss without hijacking this one.
BTW - The person you reference ceased to exist in 1999.

My apologies for commenting on a thread. I did not intend to hijack anything, nor did I mention any person -

Merely stating facts about the lack of fair labelling standards here in the USA with respect to oil bottles.

It puts any purchaser in dire straits to their largest expense in life - transportation.
I was referencing bottles of a product that had motor oil in it supposedly - not all cans do.

Look up the recent Dollar General debacle - where a BMW 750 iL owner bought "synthetic oil" for his BMW.
Unfortunately the label didn't state that the 100% synthetic oil - wasn't as such - and was to be used ONLY in pre 1931 engines.
So the BMW engine went to the automotive health & comfort room
Found that on the web in court cases......Dollar General had to close some stores over the damages. Smart consumer - he woke up.
Most would be using UBER or hiring a donkey to get them around after finding such a great deal for their $100,000 + transportation.

My handle was AI generated by chatbot gpt 19.5 used in Beersheba Israel.
I know very little about anything.

Comment away. This thread turned out to be useless, except for maybe a warning to pay attention from buying off 3rd party sellers on Walmart.

What was strange is that listing was the same exact listing I always see when looking for oil, its not like it was a totally separate listing. It even shows i bought it twice before.

I didnt always use Mobil oil. Ive always done my own oil changes and would just buy the least expensive in my first cars. Then I got my last Grand Cherokee and started buying the Mobil1, not really sure why but probably because i thought in my head it is good, plus its always on the shelf for a good price at Walmart. Then i got this w204 and was reading the operators manual and it says right in it under Fuels, coolants, lubricants ,etc "Mercedes-Benz recommends MOBIL OIL. Then for engine type 272 it says MB sheet number 229.5. So its showing the Mobil1 on the approved oils. i also look at note 5 about using lowest viscosity for fuel economy.

If they didnt have Mobil1 for under lets say $30 for 5 quart jug at Walmart I would probably go with another approved brand that was under $30.

I dont just buy it because its Mobil, I don't buy Mobil gas.

I suppose most people know this, but that sticker under the hood about Mercedes recommending Mobil 1 is there because Mobil paid Mercedes for the right to put it there. Shell did the same thing with Ferrari. Kind of like brands paying to name a sports stadium.

During that period it was also the factory fill and was what was in the Mercedes oil bottles. As the BeVo points out, anything approved under the proper sheet is fine for the engine, including Mobil 1.

I don’t know what the current factory fill is, but the latest I have is that the oil in the Mercedes bottles is from Petronas, who, in fact, follows Mobil standards for lubricants.

Stick with what is on the proper sheet and you’re fine, so shop for the best price among those choices. Are the better oils that aren’t on the sheet? Probably, but you’ve got to do a lot of research and know something about what makes engine oils work to stay out of trouble.

If @theoilzone ‘s 412k+ miles on his C240 is correct, he’s doing something right.

Too bad they don't have a footnote for "best performance" or "engine longevity". Remember, manufacturers are driving by government mandates for fuel economy. Doesn't matter if it's the best for your engine. It just needs to meet some minimum threshold. That's what the whole oil solenoid discussion is about.
