Video of Spero's burnout and others

This is another video of our trackday on 12/2. The M5 didn't use LC on this run. Enjoy!

Wow, promise not bashing at all, but man, this video can really be used in classrooms for example of torque vs upper end hp. I know I know...no launch control used on the M5, but watch the launches...amazing the difference.

I still find it amazing that any schmuck with the coin can take an E55 to the track and turn 11.75. The E55 put that Ford (or was it a Montego?) to shame.

It was neither. That car is stock just like the M5. The car is a 1970 Cyclone Spoiler, it was a limited production run of only 50 cars. I think 12.58 is pretty good for an old lead sled with a 4spd. The moddified E55's will put a lot of cars to shame.

Didn't mean to offend anyone with the schmuck comment. I just meant that any plain old joe can walk in a buy some pretty serious machinery now days.

Used to be you had to be special (Or wait for years on a list) to get access to the real high performance stuff like 427 camaros, ram air V firebirds, F40's, F50's etc in order to get mid 12 style performance.

I think it's a friggin riot that you can get E55 style performance right out of the showroom with out having to be the dealer's butt buddy.

Was the M5 flooring it?

Yes I was flooring it, can't you tell by the trap speed?

If you're wondering why it doesn't take off so hard it's because the LC is pretty lame for track use since it's so sticky at the track.

You can tell that the M5 has power. Listen to it spinning the tire into second and third gear. The car traps well, it just doesn't have the low end tq that we have.

Yeah, (sigh with head down) I give up....the M5 is (exhale) pretty fast. DAMN that hurt. I gotta go grab a brew. (walks off with shoulders shrugged)

No I wasn't able to tell.
Why is the LC so lame to use on the track? I don't understand the 'since it's so sticky' part.

Sorry I'm being so obtuse today.

I thought that was due to the tires. My friends V6 Mustang chirps when he shifts high.

did you have line-lock on the E55?

If not how did you spin the rear wheels without the fronts moving at all?

Because our Max TQ comes in at around 7K RPM, launching the car at 1600 and tires hooking up, basically makes you launch at 50% or less of its Max TQ so you have to wind up the car to get power going.

Sure if you have bald tires you can chirp 3rd in a Corolla I guess.

Spero, I'm just jealous.

I will have DR on for my first spring run. I was going to put drag radials on my stock 18" rims but did I read that you went with 17" on BBS wheels?

Also, if you and Derrick could comment on your pre-launch and launch technique, I would appreciate the information. You guys have the 60ft thing down and that is where I am lacking.

So from what I've read, LC on the US M5's is @ 1800rpm, which is too low to be considered a real launch control because of the lack of torque at that RPM?

My stock rims were used for winter tires last winter before I purchased the Dodge RAM 1500 Quad 4x4. Since adding that car I was never going to drive the E55 in winter weather, hence no need for my stock rims (sold them 6 months ago). I have had the AMG 19" rims on the car for the last 18 months.

Since they do not make a DR for 19" rims, I wanted to get the smallest rim possible (smaller is better in 1/4 runs) and the BBS RC 17" was the answer. My technique is very simple, warmed up the tires and then hammered it from the line. On my best 0-60 I also started power braking up to 1K and hammering it with no wheel spin.

Look forward to the spring when it gets warmer allowing the tires to grip even more. It was very cold and still was getting killer times.
