1600 is where our LC is, I thought it was 1800 but it's not. 1600 or 1800 for that matter is really too low for any track because of the sticky compound.

I realized that on a regular street, even 1600 is too much because it just burns rubber.

- get a little water on the rears
- pull up where it's dry in the burnout area (usually just a few ft)
- apply just enough brake to keep the car from rolling
- aggressively get into the gas while feeding in just enough brake to keep the car from moving... hold at a steady rpm
- when the tires begin to heat up, they will drag the revs down just a little
- left off the brake and then the gas

Wayne,

Do you need to do this in Dyno mode or can it be done with just TC off?

M5 owners should beware of that Cyclone. I would hate to get my *** whipped by a tank like that. One less thing for us E55 owners to worry about.

So drags were used on the blue E55, correct? Is the amount of time that burn out took place a good amoung of time to heat those puppies up? Sorry I'm a noob when it comes to drags. And are you brake boosting and then going full throttle from the beginning or are you just rollin into the pedal and then full throttle?

The 429 Super Cobra Jet motor had as I recall close to 11 to 1 CR and was conservatively rated at 375HP. Talk about torque. I used to drive my Dad's 69 429 4v which was very similar in a Grand Marquis and routinely smoked 350 Novas, small block Mustangs and other pony cars. After 72 the HP and torque went away until recently. YaaHoo

Yes, Spero had drag radials on his car.

During your burnout, you don't need to hit full throttle. You need to get the tires spinning quickly and then keep them spinning. The faster they're spinning, the less time you have to heat them up. As the tires heat up, they will get sticky and it will become more difficult to spin them. This will start to drag the motor down a little and this is when you stop doing your burnout and roll up to the line. 2-4 seconds is usually plenty of time.

2 things with Spero's runs:

1. These were brand new tires. New tires will require a bit more time burning them for the 1-2 passes.

2. It was COLD. The track was very cold and so were the tires.

If you're racing at the track, try to avoid driving through the waterbox. Drive AROUND it and then back in. If you drive through the waterbox, you will track water up to the line and reduce your traction (we had Spero drive through because we were controlling the amount of water in the box). If you're on street tires, you don't need water at all, just a quick burnout to clean off the tires is all that is necessary.

Is it just my impression, or does that track grade downhill?

After you hit the 1/4 mile mark there is an upward hill to help slow down ur car. Maybe thats creating an illusion

That is how all 1/4 tracks are. An upward hill at the end which, in turn creates the illusion that the latter part of the 1/4 track slopes downward.

Thumbs up

OK I'll admit I'm a novice, but how do you smoke the tires like that without moving forward?
