190e idle problem?

Last summer I had a 2.6 put in my 87 190e 2.3 16v due to engine problems! My problem is once the engine gets to a normal operation temp or when its hot out the engine has an erratic idle ,it dips up and down from 1500 rpm to almost stalling! It happens from time to time and comes and goes any ideas? could it be idle stablizer or possibly air/fuel mix this also could be out ?????????????????????????? thanks

Check Cold Start Valve

Clean the cold start valve. If that doesn't work, do change it. You will be able to buy one for no more than 120 US$. It's a Bosch OEM replacement. As the valve and your car is pretty old, I would recommend to change the gasket to. It's about .5 and 1.5 US$. Worth buying it.

Good Luck

It may be your EHA valve has gone bad. It is attached to the back of your fuel distributor. I had a problem where my car would idle erratic when it warmed up. Then it got really bad where it seemed to be choking. I disconnected the electrical connector to this valve and it worked, the car runs fine. Though it is a temporary fix.

Electro Hydraulic Actuator, or Primary pressure regulator.
Dont know how to check it.
As for the cold start valve I think it gets an impulse from ECU on startup
supplying extra fuel for a few seconds.
However there is one unit I have read about. The auxilary air valve wich gives more air to the engine on startup. If this gets stuck in open posistion it will rev the engine up. You can try clamping the rubber pipe between the air valve and the inlet manifold. The revs should fall to normal.

My car just started having problems with the Idle Valve. The car would rev between 1k to 1.5k at start-up, than fall to .4k a couple seconds later and if I turned the steering wheel it would die from the load. When the car warms up it idles fine at .6k but sometimes drops back to .4 again running bad.

I cleaned the valve with carburetor cleaner, alot of brown deposits came out, so I also cleaned the hose from the intake to the valve, put it all back together, and now it revs alittle over 3k at start-up and drops to .9k at idle. Do I have to clean it even better or the problem lies somewhere else.

The car has 110k.
