Help! Car won't start

Any and all suggestions are needed here. I have an 86 2.3 190E. The car seems to turn over fine just will not start up. There is a spark in the plugs as I took one out, turned the ignition and saw a spark. The spark plugs also smell like gasoline although they are not doused with gas. Not sure if they are suppose to be. Also there seems to be no problem with the distributor or wires. I had recent work. The throttle valve was cleaned and they gave me some kind of fuel injector service. The car ran fine just the engine seemed to vibrate a little more than usual after service. Any ideas?????

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago w/ my '91 190E 2.6
My Ignition Coil was shorted, the car would start then stall, misfiring like crazy.
Cost me ~$250 at the time, u cn probably DIY if your handy.

Good luck,
TB

Any luck yet Patrick? It doesn't sound like the coil to me, if you're getting a spark at the plugs. BTW the plugs shouldn't have gas on them, but you said they didn't... It sounds like it could be one of many things and without knowing more I don't dare guess with any certainty. Also check other threads... a lot of people have 190e starting problems. Hopefully someone on here knows a lot more than I do but here's what I know, for what it's worth:

Since it all started when you had the injectors serviced, that would be a logical starting point. The 190e has a relatively early mechanical fuel injection system. It's not at all uncommon to need new injectors. I know it's not what you'd want to hear, but I personally would have just replaced them instead of servicing them. They are about $45-50 each from the dealer but you could find them cheaper online. You'd also need the seals which are only a couple bucks each. If you're mechanically inclined you can easily DIY but your fuel system will need adjusting afterwards and that takes some experience... not because it's difficult but you simply have to know how to do it.

When my injectors started going bad and leaking fuel out, I had a lot of trouble starting. Giving a little gas when turning over would usually get it to start though. Anyway, it could be anything, but that's what little help I can offer. I feel for ya! Good luck!
