I just purchased a 1987 190e for about $2000. It has 120,000 miles on the original engine, and a new transmission with about 5,000 miles on it (automatic). Is there anything about this engine/model that I should know about or be looking for? Any major repairs that might need to be done soon? Is this a reliable engine, or prone to problems? Please let me know about anything that a first time mercedes owner should know about. Thank you for your time.

 

What engine do you have?

 

it is the 2.3 liter four-cylinder. I notice that there is a 16 valve version, but I don't think that I have that one.

 

I am not 100% on that engine, but overheating is something that pops up on the 190's. Clutch fans seem to fail.
