1987 - 190D... shakes on freeway
When the speed hits like 60 mph, the car starts shaking in a weird way... anyone have any idea what could cause this and what I could do to fix this problem?

Check 1) wheel balance carefully, Mercedes are particulary sensitive to balancing, so find a good shop to do the check; 2) have the front suspension looked at, particularly ball joints and tie rod ends; 3) the drive shaft balance can also cause shaking at speed.

While you are at the shop check for engine bedding and the gear box mounting, The engine bedding being oil filled, it is possible that one of them have become soft and the the other collapsed.

Drive shaft flex discs
At the front and back of the drive shaft there are two flex discs (bushings that look like huge washers with about 6 bolts going through them). If you go to have your drive shaft checked out you might want to ask the mechanic to check them. My 77 280CE had a vibration at around the same speed, these discs can wear out and are probably the most likely cause of an imbalance in the drive shaft area. Like any other bushing, they get a bit dry rotted with age.

Actually, you should remove and retorque the 6 bolts at each end. Even if the disc appears to be in good shape, if the bolts aren't torqued right it could cause problems. It would also give you (or your mechanic) a better look at them.
