Do I need to lower my car in order to install Bilstein sport shocks and struts?

I plan to purchase Bilstein sport shocks and struts for my car- 1984
190E 2.3 8v. Can they be installed and work properly with the original car springs? Or I need to change the springs to lowered springs?

Are you buying them just for the name "sport?"

If you like the ride height of the car as it is, just purchase the HD units from Bilstein. You will prematurely wear the sports by using them with original length springs. The sport units are valved and pressurized to accomodate the shorter stroke of a lowered suspension.

You do not need to lower the lac to use the Bilstein Sports but as MTI said, they will wear out quickly.
