1984 190E 2.3 8v A/C compressor questions
I live in israel. 190E's are getting pretty rare here. Finding parts for them or people who know about the car is becoming a big problem. My A/C compressor is dying. It cuts out after a while. It also cant be turned on sometimes and when it does its very noisy. Biggest problem is that the compressor is "American" model and not "European". Its round and looks like a landmine. I cant find any new compressors. All I can find here are used and with no warranty (also very expensive because they are rare).
An A/C mechanic (Electrician) told me that the compressor on my car looks almost identical to old GMC truck compressors (especially like on old Sonoma's). Can anyone confirm or deny this? Would any other manufacturer's compressor fit? I can find Sonoma compressor for pretty cheap. Would it fit and work properly? How much would the A/C compressor cost in the US?

Yes, the 1984 models had the Delco (GM) based compressor, which has proven to be a lot more reliable than the later model Nippon Denso units. The part from Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile will bolt up fine.
