copper core

I changed my spark plugs from Autolite plat to Bosch copper core non resistor. My car doesn shake as bad as it was shaking before. But when at running temp, it sits on 500rpm in gear. 700 in N/P. When I go into gear, the car drops to almost 300-400 rpm and almost dies then sets at 500. It doesnt go up and down while in gear or N/P but i think it idles really low. Shouldnt it be 750 in gear?

Is there a way to adjust the idle? I know you can do the air/fuel mixture but mine has this bubble over the entrance for the allen key. can I drill that out?

The only thing I found that adjust my idle is the throttle cable. But, when I do so, it adjust the play in my pedal, and also I get two idles. When warmed up it either idles at 500 in gear, or 800/900 in gear. I cant get it to sit inbetween. Its one or the other. When I do get it to idle that high, I loose my kickdown lol.

So is there a way to adjust the idle without adjusting the throttle cable. Or, maybe im just running too lean and need to adjust the ari fuel mixture. I get 26mpg wither I dirve it fast or slow, city or highway.

I will leave the correct answers to those more experienced, but you probably want to tell us more about which model engine you have. Is it a 2.3 fuel injected? If so, I believe the idle is controlled by a chip.

BTW, I think that 750 maybe on the high side when you are in gear. I believe mine idles at ±600 in gear (D or R), and about the same (or less) in N or P.

Your 2.6 is equiped with an idle speed air controler. You cannot adjust the idle speed. I would first check for a vacuum leak. If that doesn't solve the problem it may be the idle control valve. If you don't have a Mercedes w201 manual on cd you should make the investment. There are steps outlined on the cd for testing the controller.

Thank you. Ill have to see about getting one .

I think its the air fuel mixture, or the bosch wire set I have. My idle doesnt jump its very consistent. Its just too low when it warms up. Wich, i hear could be the wire set because the ohm rating changes when they get warm or something. Or, it could be the air fuel mixture because I get much better MPG then most people. I get about 26 weither I drive fast or slow. I get 25-26 mpg out of the 2.6 engine.

Ill be doing some more research over the next week. I just got a part time job at autozone so I can get a discount on some parts ive been looking to buy lol.
