Hey guys, im new to the Mercedes world, I come from the world of BMW. I just purchased a Mercedes. I was wondering what known problems do the 190e's have. Also, who makes performance parts for them. Name of part stores, etc.

Knowns problems . . . I would start by scanning the topics in this thread. The engine cooling system should be inspected; the rubber-metal joints of the suspension are getting old at this age; the a/c system was not the best, even when new.
As for the 2.3-16 specifically, the biggest problems arise not from the build of the car, but the neglect inflicted by previous owners due to the high cost of maintaining the car. For instance, valve clearances are manually done via shims under the cam buckets.

Given the limited sales (2,200 in 86-87) there really wasn't a market for tuning the 2.3-16 in the US. Long ago, but no longer, Bekkers used to sell a 2.5L stroker kit.
Pretty much everything done is "homespun" in the way of turbos, superchargers and the like. The biggest "bang for the buck" is to substitute the Bosch CIS for a full EFI system that can be tuned. Checkout eBay for a guy in Asia selling EFI conversion kits based on Megasquirt.

mequsquirt kit is a must before making other major moves. Intake will not benefit from a cone filter but reducing the length of the intake running once switching to megasquirt will give gains. Other obvious ones....exhaust...cut out the cat, switch the rear box. Megasquirt will also increase reliability and decrease gas consumption depending on how it is tuned.
