Unhappy Accidentally modified 190E - my Mercedes bends.

So I was just passing another car which had pulled-over at the kerb when he decided to turn out without indicators or mirrors ! He slammed me across the wet road and my poor 190E came to rest on top of some ornamental rocks.
Only a bit of body damage at the front, but steering, suspension, brakes and sump are all shot to hell. The 'Garda' (Irish police) insisted on revving the engine while shoving it brutally off the rocks even though I kept telling them that the oil had run out of the engine.
So at 31130 miles - just nicely run in - and in pristine condition, it seems like it will run no more !

Unhappy

Thanks,
Of course - I can't do anything about those cops. In their eyes it was just an old car and their government pays people to scrap a car when it is ten years old !
Unfortunately now have to rely on my nsurance company treating me decently. The car is on an 'agreed market value' policy which, they tell me, means nothing. The policy clearly states that in the event of an accident abroad (Ireland is officially 'abroad' from England) they will be responsible for delivering the car back to my home address. Unfortunately they say that they will not repatriate a car which is being 'written off' (total loss).
I suspect that, for the loss of what might have been the lowest mileage 190E in Britain, that they will compensate me with the cost of buying a high-mileage wreck off e-bay !

There is a 84 AMG 190 for 3 grand somewhere

Well good luck man. Thats a sad thing to loose that car. You mgiht have had one of the lowest milage 190's in the world actually. The onjly one I know of with less is one that was bought last year with around 30k on the clock I beelive. Other then that IDK. I have over 200k

If you were in america, I would say try to get them to buy you a car with simular interior, engine, tranny, overall condition of a vehicle. That car was practicially brand new! in retrospect.

Its a sad loss man.

Sorry, I've just quoted you !
Do you, or anyone else, happen to recall any other details - like how much it sold for ?
It seems that, depite my 'Agreed Market Value' insurance policy, I am going to be locked into a battle with my insurers as they will be looking towards paying me only a fraction of the cars value. Any evidence I can find of similar cars values will be helpfull to me I'm sure.

Angry

Guys - thanks for the sympathy and good wishes.
Beware 'agreed market value' insurance policies !
The 'agreed market value' of my car was documented as £3500 (call it $7000), which on reflection I now feel might have been a little low but I would accept anyway.
My insurance company began by offering me £1100 ($2200) and have now raised that to £1500 ($3000) after I presented them with a great deal of evidence showing somewhat older and higher-mileage examples changing hands for between £2000 and £2500 ($4000 - $5000).
They are under no obligation to actually replace the vehicle - that is only done with new ones - but this does raise severe doubts over exactly what 'agreed market value' is supposed to mean.
You might think that it is the market value of my car agreed between myself and my insurance company. So did I. They don't !
They also tell me that my car has been registered as a 'class C write-off' and would have to pass an engineer's inspection before they will insure it again.
So, basically, my car is now stuck where it is and is getting vandalised.
