1993 190e 2.6

I just traded a rustbucket 2001 Kia Sephia w/30k miles on it for a 1993 190e 2.6 that had never been driven in salt/snow with 113k miles. The MBZ looks, runs and drives like the new one I had in 1992. Changed all fluids and filters, replaced rear pads and rotors, non-working radio (bypassed fader and disconnected power to non-working power antenna and amp in trunk and found it had 4 newer Pioneer speakers), disconnected cold shift delay and in general found it had been well maintained - new ball joints, mufflers, tires, front brakes, belts and hoses, distrib cap, rotor and plugs, etc.
Even tho I have worked on cars for 45yrs, This forum (and BenzWorld) helped a lot - especially the radio wiring diagrams. BTW if you have replaced the radio make sure the the yellow/black and the yellow/green/black wires (Ignition) stay together - otherwise the rear window heater won't work (as I found out).
Thanks for all the help

Thanks! Also the battery died a month after getting - replaced with First Interstate. Someone had stripped oil drain plug(pan) and put in a 14x1.25mm spark plug helicoil, then forced in the 14x1.5mm orig drain plug so when I removed to change oil helicoil came out. For now I put in a rubber t-stopper - hasn't leaked a drop in 4 months. At next oil drain am planning to tap to 16x1.5mm and use jeep drain plug - might be awhile since I used synthetic oil and only drive about 1500mi/yr.

Oil

It doesnt matter how much you drive a year the oil still breaks down in the motor. If you are not driving your full miles a year you still need to change the oil every 6 months!

50 years ago that might be true, but a lot has changed in the past 50 years.
Syn will be fine for a year, and so will most oil.

Yes Gullwing - I drive 25 miles once a week (99% freeway) so it gets nice and hot and change with full syn and NAPA Gold filter every 3,000mi.(2 yrs) and the oil looks new at change and the inside of exhaust pipe is that nice grey/brown color and I get 24mpg on Union 76 mid-grade(89 octane - fine after 80,000mi.)

Oil

That's fine, But most of the people don't get to see what I see inside the motor everyday. Just like this 15,000 miles BMW tells people about there new oil changes. That's a load of ****. That's cuz they only warranty the motor for 50,000 miles and then after that when your build up is so bad you tick or bad oil flow they dont care its not their problem. The cake build up problems they all had on the E46 was a scary thing. It's your choice I am just letting know know what I see everyday in the motor and the effect of it.
