Anyone running 20-50W during the summer?
In talking to a few other older german car owners they recommended that I run 20-50W in the summer.
I also heard comments that you should run 5-30W all season as the oil comes up the cam towers quicker.
I changed the oil to 20-50W; seems to run quieter, a tad cooler on engine temps but much more overall oil pressure on my 1991 190E 2.3.
Just curious what others have heard out there...

20W 50 is for above 32 degrees F. I run 15W 50 in the summer (Mobil 1) and 0W 40 in the winter (also Mobil 1).
If you don't have an owners manual (or shop manual)

Just put my 190E in the garage for winter maintenance.
I use hi zinc 20-50 in the summer, 30 in the winter.
Same as my Yamaha XS650

Oil weight
I have always run 15w40, as directed in the owners manual. I run it year round and live in Indiana. I also run 15w40 in my 85 GTi as also specified in the owners manual. I think the soot control properties and weight are ideal. I also have used a quart of Rislone at each oil change in both cars and have owned both since new.
